Ostheimer wooden figures: people, families, farmers and shepherds

Ostheimer wooden figures: people, families, farmers and shepherds

Ostheimer wooden figures bring small worlds to life. With people, children, farmers, shepherds and family figures, your child can create stories about daily life, the farm, a village, a nativity scene or a self-made play world. The simple shapes and calm colours give direction, while still leaving plenty of room for imagination.

At the Toverboom you will find Ostheimer wooden figures that fit beautifully with open-ended play, seasonal tables, Waldorf-inspired play and small world play. A farmer cares for the animals, a shepherd walks with his sheep, a mother carries a child and children play among the trees, houses and animals. Because the figures have no fixed rules, your child decides what happens.

Features and materials of Ostheimer wooden figures

Ostheimer is known for handmade wooden figures with a warm and natural appearance. Each figure is carefully shaped, sanded and painted by hand. The colours are soft and transparent, allowing the wood structure to remain visible. This makes every Ostheimer figure slightly different.

The shapes are recognizable, but intentionally kept simple. A face has few details, a posture is calm and the colours are not bright. This allows a figure to take on a different role each time. Today it is a father, tomorrow a neighbour, shepherd, traveller or storyteller in a tale.

Ostheimer works with safe paints and oils that are suitable for toys. Thanks to the handwork, the visible wood grain and the soft finish, each figure feels lively and special.

Playing and learning with Ostheimer people and family figures

With Ostheimer people and family figures, children naturally act out everyday situations. They create stories about caring, helping, eating, walking, working, travelling or celebrating. This kind of play supports language development, social development and imagination.

A wooden family can live in a dollhouse, take part in a seasonal table or become part of a farm. Farmer figures combine beautifully with wooden animals, stables, fences and trees. Shepherds belong with sheep, hills, the nativity scene or a winter scene. In this way, a collection of Ostheimer figures slowly grows along with your child’s stories.

The figures invite calm play. Children move the figures around, invent conversations, create scenes and combine them with other materials such as play cloths, wooden blocks, houses, animals and natural treasures.

Sustainable wooden toys for open-ended play

Ostheimer wooden figures are made for years of play. They are sturdy, timeless and easy to combine with other wooden toys. Because the toys have no fixed function, they remain interesting for different ages.

Young children often use the figures in a simple way: holding, placing, moving and naming them. Older children create more detailed stories with families, farmers, shepherds, animals, houses and landscapes. This allows the play to grow along with your child’s development.

Ostheimer fits well with a conscious choice for sustainable wooden toys. The brand works with care for people, materials and nature. A special detail is that simple tasks, such as manually applying labels and stickers, are carried out by people who are distanced from the labour market.

Which Ostheimer wooden figures suit your child?

For children who enjoy family play, Ostheimer family figures are a beautiful starting point. Think of fathers, mothers, children, babies and other people figures with which your child can create homely stories.

For farm play, farmers, farmer’s wives and children on the farm are a good fit. Combine them with Ostheimer cows, horses, pigs, chickens, stables, fences and trees for a lively farm world.

For Christmas, winter tables and stories with sheep, shepherds and other calm people figures are very suitable. They fit beautifully with a wooden nativity scene, sheep, angels, trees and play cloths in natural colours.
